William A. Aden (CE) was honored by Virginia's General Assembly with House Joint Resolution 378 on his outstanding service and numerous contributions to his community and the commonwealth.

J. Jefferies Miles (BAD) has been named best lawyer in the Chambers USA 2008 ranking.


J. Pat Green (SOC) received the Virginia Small Business Veteran of the Year Award for 2008 by the Virginia Small Business Development Center.

G.H. Latham (PAD) retired from the Virginia State Corp. Commission as deputy commissioner of financial institutions after nearly 35 years of service.




W.W. Fenton (ENGL) was selected as Teacher of the Year for West Brunswick High School in Shallotte, N.C.

George R. Turner Jr. (GSC) retired as managing partner of Clay, Turner Investments LLC of Wachovia Securities Financial Network.


James E. Sullivan Jr. (ECON) received the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus Award from Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business.


Francis H. Ayers Jr. (HIST) earned his doctorate in education from NOVA Southeastern University.

Gerald W. Spessard (DASC) is a member of the Advisory Board of Markwort Sporting Goods Co. He is also inventor and former owner of the GameFace Sports Safety Mask.


Gregory F. Lawson (ACCT) is a senior partner of Goodman and Co. LLP. He is also chair of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and serves on Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mary Ellen Walter (HPE) retired from Fairfax County public schools after teaching health, physical education, and driver education for 37 years.

Robert K. Williams (BAD) retired after 31 years as a package operations manager for United Parcel Service in the Metro D.C. District.


Patty Heberling Kruszewski (SOC) is the Henrico Business Leader of the Year.

David R. Lohr (CHE) received IBM's Leadership Award from the 2008 Greater Richmond Technology Council.


Dana D. McDaniel (GBUS) has been appointed chair of Spotts Fain PC's litigation section.


Christopher E. Mandel (MGT) was awarded the Alexander Hamilton Award for Excellence in Risk Management by Treasury & Risk magazine. He is also president of Enterprise Indemnity CIC Inc.

Stephen L. Sowder (ARCH) is market director of the office and iteriors sector for Hayes, Seay, Mattern, & Mattern Inc.

Larry D. Walker (URBA) was awarded the Toulmin Medal from the Society of American Military Engineers for his article "Stabilization Reconstruction" in The Military Engineer magazine.

Michael A. Dolan (EE) was recognized by the Advanced Television Systems Committee with its 2008 Bernard Lechner Outstanding Contributor Award for his work on television broadcast standards/documentation.

David S. Kaplan (BIOL) received the Patrick G. Laing Award from ASTM International Committee F04 on Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices.

Allan W. Kehrt (ARCH) commemorated his architectural firm's 25th anniversary by contributing to Habitat for Humanity during summer 2008.

Mary Anne Ulrich Mandel (MKTG) has completed 20 years of service to Community Bible Study International as assistant teaching director of the San Antonio chapter.
