Merit and chapter scholars for 2001

Scholarships for seven freshmen were awarded from the Alumni Association's scholarship endowment.

'05 Alumni Presidential Scholars:

In addition to these endowed scholars, 39 alumni chapters throughout the nation have awarded 134 scholarships totaling $131,750. The scholarships provide merit-based financial assistance.

Alumni staff promotions and additions

Tom Tillar, vice president for alumni relations, recently announced four alumni staff promotions and two new appointments. Congratulations to the following:

Debbie Shelton, formerly director of alumni relations, has been named associate vice president and oversees the major program areas of chapters, publications and printing, and student programs.

Richard Hastings, formerly senior associate director of alumni relations, has been named assistant vice president and oversees the major program areas of constituency/reunion programs, alumni records, and systems support.

Bob Bailey has been promoted from assistant to associate director of alumni relations. He is merchandising program coordinator and also assists several chapters, class reunions, and the College of Human Resources and Education.

Lynn Young has been promoted from college coordinator to assistant director of alumni relations. She continues her role assisting the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College of Natural Resources, and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine with their alumni programs.

Retired Air Force Colonel Richard S. "Rock" Roszak (business management '71) recently joined the staff as associate director of corps alumni programs. Roszak facilitates Corps of Cadets alumni involvement through special events, reunions, and other activities. He returned to Virginia Tech in 1994 as the commander of the Air Force ROTC detachment and has spent the past three years as a deputy commandant of cadets.

Heather M. Esteban joined the staff as assistant director of alumni relations and assists the College of Engineering with its college and departmental programs. She also assists with the Alumni Association Web site design and maintenance.
